Our Story

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO EASY FOR US TO HAVE NEVER MET.

Brandon grew up just 2 miles from here. His parents have been swimming in this lake since they were kids.

Corey grew up in a Toronto suburb.

It just so happened that some of Brandon’s colleagues and good friends lived in Saint Louis. Looking to get out of town, Brandon moved there, even as he continued to travel all over the country for work.

It just so happened that Corey applied to graduate schools all over the country and, at the last moment, was accepted into Saint Louis University.

One day, Brandon and Corey were using the same random dating website. And it just so happened they began chatting and decided to meet for a beer. Luckily, Brandon’s sister was able to calm his nerves enough and he actually went.

Life is funny that way. Along the road, we never know the new buddies we’ll find.

The SHACK Story

80 YEARS OF ENJOYMENT ON THE LAKE

The Buddy Shack has been a place for family fun, visits with friends, and time to unplug and unwind for many years!

The original structure was  built at the same time as the neighbor’s cabin between 1938-1940. It was originally built as a hunting and fishing camp. The shed was built as an additional bunkhouse. Originally, it was more of a winter destination than a summer one. Brrrrrr!

There used to be a stone fire place with a cast-iron cover  where the fire pit now is. It was made of the same stone that is in the walls along the  stairs. The bathroom is part of an addition that was built in the 1970s.

It’s been called the Buddy Shack since 2000. The owner from that time shared the story with us. She wrote, “I called it the Buddy Shack because my at-the-time  boyfriend and I bought it with one of our best friends. So there were three of us...and we couldn’t call it the ‘Love  Shack!’ Hence, the Buddy Shack. It was a place to gather with family and friends and just enjoy life.”

For eighty years, people have been enjoying this spot on the lake and we’re sure you will too!
